MSc thesis title: Geochemical comparison of mafic magmatism of Koushkak and Azadkin volcanics (Saveh) west Iran.
PhD thesis title: Petrology, Geodynamics and Emplacement Mechanism of Malayer Granitic Complex (Western Iran) Based on Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility.
Abstract of PhD thesis:
Malayer complex is emplaced within the early to middle Jurassic regional metamorphic rocks which consist of slate, phyllite and schist so called Hamadan phyllite in the Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone (SSZ). The Malayer plutonic complex, in the Northern Sanandj-Sirjan Zone (Western Iran), is a composite, roped-shapedintrusive body, range from alkali granite, syenogranite, monzogranite, granodiorite, to tonalite in composition with high-K calc-alkaline affinity and some little massives of basic-to-intermediate, gabbro and diorite that have different geological history. They typically have angular to spherical-shaped magmatic and metamorphic enclaves.Whole-rock trace and major element geochemical and U–Pb geochronological data are presented this dissertation for Malayer granitoids. They are medium- to coarse grained weakly deformed, leucocratic to mesocratic, sub-circular to elliptical in shape and appear to have been emplaced syn to post tectonically into Jurassic metasedimentary units and show calc-alkaline affinities and are similar to subduction-related environments' plutonic rocks. The U–Pb zircon age data point to a Middle Jurassic crystallization age for the Malayer granitoids. These rocks are characterized by wide ranges of SiO2 (58.28- 77.35 wt.%) and Al2O3 (12.4-24.4), total alkali (K2O+Na2O) from 1.7 to 11.2 wt.% and A/CNK from 0.88 to 2.22 (Transition I/S to S-type granites). The difference in geochemistry of the rocks is due to difference in their sources. The incompatible trace element patterns of Malayer intrusive complex are characterized by negative Ba, Nb, Sr, P and Ti anomalies and enrichment of Th, Zr and La elements. The positive Th, Zr and La enrichment of these rocks is interpreted upper continental crust as a source and depletion of Nb and Ti may be related to slab-drived fluids of melts. The 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd isotopic ratios are from 0.70797 to 0.7108 and 0.51231 to 0.51245, respectively. This values support crustal origin of rocks. Geothermobarometry by using several methods reveal 2.6-3.5 Kb pressure and 630-700ºC temperature for crystallization of pluton. The biotite compositionindicate the ilmenite-series for granitoids and a reduced magma fugacity of 10-15 to 10-10. The low Low magneticsusceptibility of rocks (4-706μSI) and HFA analysis show that magnetic susceptibilityis dominated by paramagnetic minerals (biotite and amphibole). The granitoids usually show oblate magnetic fabric. The patterns of foliations and lineationsin the Malayer pluton suggest a diapiricmode of ascent. These intrusive rocks may are the remnants of an original volcanic arc that was only weakly developed because of slow subduction rate Neotethys oceanic crust beneath Iranian microplate.
